New Women-Owned Business Funding in Ontario

Ontario has announced a new round of funding for women-led businesses through the Women’s Entrepreneurship Funding (WELF) program. This update includes expanded eligibility, increased grant amounts, and a new application deadline. Women entrepreneurs across Ontario are now eligible to apply for grants up to $10,000 to support business development, market entry, and innovation projects.

The WELF program is part of the broader Women’s Entrepreneurship Strategy, which aims to close the gender gap in business ownership and leadership. This latest intake is designed to support women who are starting, scaling, or transitioning their businesses. Eligible applicants include sole proprietors, incorporated businesses, and cooperatives led by women.

Key changes to the program include a broader definition of eligible activities, such as digital marketing, product development, and customer acquisition. Applicants are also encouraged to include diversity and inclusion initiatives in their proposals. The deadline for this round is April 30, 2025, with funding decisions expected by late summer.
